The Detroit Jewish News

I interned at the Detroit Jewish News from May 2019-Sept. 2019. I was offered a part time spot as a reporter, but had to decline to focus on my schooling. Below are some of the best stories I wrote as an intern, including a story where I did some on-camera work. The Jewish News was a great experience for me to test my skills in a professional environment and familiarize myself with a community I had no ties to, but quickly grew to appreciate.

FIGHTING FENTANYL

Feb. 12, 2019

In the weeks leading up to nineteen-year-old Erika’s death, in 2011, her parents had been feeling hopeful. Erika had just been released from prison after her second time in rehab for a heroin addiction, and seemed to finally be doing better. But then Erika relapsed and overdosed, using heroin laced with fentanyl. Her parents found her in bed, motionless and purple, according to her father, Rob. Multiple doses of Narcan could not revive her.

Podcast/Radio Show

While at WXOU, my best friends and I produced a podcast,"Hot Takes and Mistakes." I hosted the show and ran the board, playing ads and adjusting the levels throughout the show. It was been a really fun learning experience, and the reception we have received from the podcast has been tremendous. After recording the audio version I edit the video footage and upload it to YouTube as well. Below is an example of one of our episodes.
