WRITING

Every story I have ever written is on my staff profile page on the Fenton InPrint online version. All stories are in reverse chronological order to show my progression as a writer.
My Skills
and programs known

My greatest passion when it comes to writing is sports. My earliest memories include sports, and ever since I can remember thinking of a career choice, it has been a sports journalism career. Sports writing is not the only type of writing I have done. I have written feature, news, and opinion stories as well as my favorite, sports.

JV Baseball handles Clio

May 1, 2015

This story I wrote was a simple summary of the game, but I feel it was one of my better sports news stories that was on the online edition of the Fenton InPrint in my first year.

Trap shooting begins its first year at Fenton High

Dec 28, 2015

This story I wrote at the end of 2015 features the newest team being added to Fenton. I interviewed the student who founded the team as well as the sport's advisor. It was one of my favorite stories to write and in my opinion, one of my most solid.

Boys’ varsity tennis takes third in Metro Tournament

September 29, 2016

Another brief on a sporting event, this one about tennis, just proves my knowledge and ability to cover different types of sporting events.

Fenton defeats Flushing on their own turf, 3-0

October 5, 2016

This game summary is on the JV and Varsity soccer team's matches. Yet another sport I have covered, I obtained quotes from multiple players and got the story up within 24 hours.

Column Writing

Live and Learn

December 18, 2015

A lot can be learned from sports, and after the Michigan/Michigan State football game in 2015 where MSU won on a botched punt, I decided to look on the positive side, and speak of lessons that can be learned from famous sports moments.

One last ride

September 16, 2016

To kick off senior year, I wrote this column about seizing the day, and taking chances. Trying new sports, and making sure that student-athletes last seasons were seasons to remember.

The Right To Speak

November 17, 2016

After a long summer and fall of Colin Kaepernick drama involving free speech and the right to protest the national anthem, I thought it would be a good idea to speak on the issue of free speech for athletes, and if they should be criticized.

You are a Bandwagoner
December 1, 2016

I am quite passionate as a fan about other fans who jump from team to team because they want to be a part of a winning team, I felt it appropriate to address this in my December column.

Opinion Writing
Are you LIKE crazy?

December 21, 2015

One of my more passionate beliefs is the belief that social media is ruining the way people believe about them selves. I argued that people put too much value on a "like" which means absolutely nothing. Opinion stories are a favorite of mine to write just because of my very strong convictions and beliefs.

The Importance of Sports

February 9, 2015

The Importance of Sports was one of the more controversial columns I have ever written. There was quite the outcry after this story hit the press. I stuck by my opinion, no matter the hate I received. This story really shaped me into the writer I am today.

Students expected to fill a part time job is unrealistic

October 13, 2016

Another strong belief I hold is that it is difficult being a teenager who also has to work a job for many hours a week. I wanted to express this, especially as a teen with a job. This story was very personal to me, and I tried to keep my voice in this piece while also including facts.

Call To Action: It is imperative America comes together

November 13, 2016

After the 2016 presidential election, a lot of race-based events transpired at my school. At the last moment of our deadline, we decided as a staff to write an editorial about how our school needs to be more cohesive and less divisive. Together, my Editor-in-Chief Riley Wilson and I co-wrote this piece.

Ambassadors concert helps fund One World Water Project

November 26, 2014

This was one of the first stories I ever wrote. Looking back on it, it was incredibly advanced for me at this stage of my career. It has a video incorporated with it that I produced, and I interviewed a variety of people, including two upperclassmen, when I was a sophomore and first year writer.

Prom 2016: Freaky Friday

May 5, 2016

For the first time in FHS History, prom was on a Friday. There were many opinions about it. Always wanting to represent or display opinions, I thought it was an awesome idea to cover this, and get the voice of the students out there.

NCAA Division One changes requirements for eligibility

September 10, 2016

While this topic is centered around sports, it also is news. The NCAA changed the eligibility rules for hopeful college athletes. I obtained the quotes, information, and wrote the story all in one day. After the next day of editing, the story was published.

Regulations for inclement weather day cancellation

January 10, 2017

With no snow days yet in the year, I wrote this story to inform students on the regulations are for a snow day. After it was published, the district had about 3 snow days in a week. In order to get the best story, I reached out to the district's superintendent.

High school journalism day provides aspiring journalist a look into the profession

March 6, 2015

I was lucky enough to be able to attend a media day for the Detroit Red Wings and ask professional athletes, coaches, and general managers questions. It was a wonderful experience. This story is also a personal narrative of my time at media day.

No Membership, No Problem

September 17, 2016

Feature stories are my least written stories, but when I have the chance to write them, I enjoy it. This story is part sports, but is more feature. I had to reach out to the director at Fenton Fitness for this, and created the sidebar graphic for this story using information he gave me.
